Daily Botanical: Land Turtles
I took this photo in Dominica on an organic farm tour in an area called Bellvue Chopin. Our tour was with Roy Ormond. If you ever get a chance to do a tour I encourage you to seek him out specifically. The farm specializes in traditional herbal medicines and Mr. Ormand was very knowledgeable and generous in sharing that knowledge.
That morning, including these adorable little tortoises, was one of the highlights of my trip.

Aw, red-footed tortoises! I have one as a pet. Celeste is much smaller than these guys appear to be, and her shell is more textured (i suspect due to malnutrition from a probable past in a pet shop). Cuties, all.

Did they make an mention on the tour if the males have the painted heads, and the females do not? Matti

Matti: I don’t recall. We didn’t spend much time with the turtles.
