I’ve had Crocus kotschyanus for several years now and am always disappointed in them. They’re so very fragile, the wind or something always makes them collapse before they even open up fully. Petals are ultra thin. I need to get a different species of fall bloomers.

I wonder if some of the thinness is due to reduced light levels. The flowers generally seem more leggy than spring blooms. In the spring there are no leaves on the trees so lots of bright light, but in the fall the leaves are still falling so there might be more shade coverage.

I have two clumps of giant fall crocuses, but a million tiny ones in the back yard. the big ones are more fragile and a hard rain will knock them over. The tinyones seem to last forever.
