Daily Botanical: French Lace Scented Geranium
Earlier this year I told myself, No more geraniums, unless it is a nutmeg geranium since my favourite plant bit the dust over the winter. However, that instruction fell out the window when I found this pretty, lemon-scented Pelargonium crispum x ‘Variegated Prince Rupert’ aka ‘Variegatum’ on sale for $1.99.
How could I not get it?
The plant was overgrown with several suckers coming up around the edges that I have since pulled out and put into some water. Interestingly enough, those new plants are not variegated.

Where do you find differently scented geraniums in T.O?

Seems I always get a non-variegated plant whenever I take a cutting from a variegated one. What is it about starting life as a cutting that resets the type of leaf it will produce?

Michael: In the past I have purchased most from Richter’s Herbs when they have come into town for various events. I got this one from Humber Nurseries.
Becki: I believe the variegation is a weaker mutation so the plant wants to revert back as a survival mechanism.
