Daily Botanical: Flying Saucer Squash
I visited the Foodcycles farm the other day and was most intrigued by this beautiful scalloped squash called ‘Flying Saucer’.

I visited the Foodcycles farm the other day and was most intrigued by this beautiful scalloped squash called ‘Flying Saucer’.

I’m embarrassed to say how often I purchased this squash at farmers markets and did not cook them because I was sure how. Kept buying them because they looked so cool.
Finally this summer someone clued me in that all I need to do is slice them horizontally and sauté them in olive oil (or steam) with salt and pepper. Simple, fresh and wonderful. It’s now on the list for next years garden.

I think Johnny’s carries that one. I’ve wanted to order it for a few years now, but ordering one thing from an American site, you’ll kill yourself with the shipping charges. How is it for flavour?

I miss having these guys this year. I grew them last year and loved them. Next year!
