Daily Botanical: Chinese Witch Hazel (Loropetalum chinense)
Also commonly known as Chinese Fringe Flower. This particular plant was growing up against the wall of the little cottage we stayed in while in Austin. It’s very pretty, and the color of both the flowers and foliage is just stunning; however, it lacks the fragrant scent of common witch hazel (Hamamelis virginiana) flowers.

there’s also a white loropetalum with creamy blooms - more subtle than the pink cultivars, but gorgeous! it grows to small tree size and tolerates quite a bit of shade in NC.

I didn’t do any special processing/colour work to this image. It’s just a really deep and bright little flower.

So that’s what that bush is called! We have them all over the place here as well, used in landscaping to create privacy hedges. Just picked some for a vase at work in fact.
