Gather, Circle Moss Ring

My pal Julie Jackson emailed me about the living jewelry created by Adorn Jewelry rightly thinking that they were perfect for gardeners. I ordered one almost immediately.

The rings come with fake moss embedded inside but you can put real moss in there if you prefer. The price has gone up a few bucks since I got mine but they’re still very affordable and well made. I don’t like to wear rings that can’t stand up to a bit of wear and tear and mine has survived through some recent rough and tumble. Although, somewhat ironically, I take it off in the garden. If rings aren’t your thing the designer also makes moss embedded pendants.

I’ve considered attaching some HO Scale miniatures to create a little diorama on my finger but I’m guessing that might make the ring almost unwearable through any activity beyond sitting very still with my hand set on a cushion. That would get old very quickly.

And because I’m charmed by beautiful packaging check out the embossed thank you card that came with the ring.

  1. Hey Gayla,

Cool rings… being hair-challenged, I was wondering if I could purchase a moss toupee? … or maybe a moss-tache? … can you ask them if they have Elvis Parsley Sideburns?

    Greg

    P.S. Sorry. Ha.

  2. Yes, the fabulousness that is Julie Jackson never ceases to amaze me. But “. . . beyond sitting very still with my hand set on a cushion. That would get old very quickly.” Heh heh. That’s classic.

  3. oooh, I might have to steal your idea… Maybe if you attached the miniatures to a bit of fine but stiff wire, you could pin them to the moss/latex foam securely enough for normal wearing.

  4. i love anything that has to do with moss! i would truely love to have a room with a moss covered floor , but think i will settle for making a little moss terrarium and perhaps this cute ring.

  5. Gayla,
Thank you so much for featuring my ring. How lovely! Several of your readers stopped by my site, some to shop, and some just to offer kind words.
I actually ordered some little N scale miniatures a little while back to photograph with the rings so I enjoyed reading that you had a similar desire to perch tiny people atop the moss.

  6. Charlotte,
First of all, plagiarism deals with the false claims of authoring another’s words/thoughts and does not apply here.
Second, while the ideas are similar, the implementation is not. Just as you pointed out, one uses real moss while the other uses fake. And they don’t even look similar, in my opinion.
With a little research on both sides in terms of looking to see who implemented their idea first, it seems pretty simultaneous to me. While Juliusson had a Gallery show in April 2008, he did not post the photos/text of his Product online until September 08. Besides that, he seems to be a Product Designer; I don’t see where he is attempting to reproduce the jewelry to sell to the public.
Adorn Jewelry’s blog reflects the beginning of her Living Jewelry line in May 08 with her rings first available for sale in August. So, unless Adorn was in Iceland in April, I would chalk this one up to the fact that Moss/Grass/Dirt is very fashionable right now. In fact, here is another fake moss ring by Julishland posted a week ago…http://julishland.deviantart.com/art/Forest-ring-1-98542893
Research always helps prior to making accusations so that you don’t end up with your foot in your mouth.
