Daily Botanical: Wild Columbine (Aquilegia canadensis)

I wanted to say that the wild columbine is my favourite native flower in bloom around late May but even narrowing it down seasonally is too lofty a claim to make. Let’s just say, I like it very much, and leave it at that.

Gayla, this is so beautiful. A real gift today for my eyes and heart today. Thank you. You make me want to leave work right now and go for a hike in the woods.
Aquilegia species are among my favourite perennials. And this particular wildflower…well also among my favourites. I can’t commit to just one either.

Wild columbine come in so many different colors, too. The ones in the woods around here (southwest Montana) are generally yellow. I’ve never seen that coral color in your lovely photo. I especially like the single cobweb strand–
