Daily Botanical: And Where Will These Be Growing?
This is breaking my rule to show only “good” pictures in the Daily Botanical section, but another package of seeds just arrived in the mail. Alongside that glow of happy seed packet joy, I experienced a new emotion… FEAR. I am starting to scare myself a little. I seem to be suffering from a severe case of space dysmorphic disorder.
I say this every year but I really mean it this time. It is time for my intervention.

I have the same disease. It is a genetic disorder, no cure available. I usually grow only two plant of each kind, so I can grow more of them.
But, even if I have a big garden, I always have more plants than space.

I have no idea where I’m going to put all of my seedlings. Even worse, I could be buying a house and moving this summer.
People keep asking me if I’m taking my plants with me. The answer is absolutely (I’ll leave some as a legacy, but I can’t let my tulips stay!)

I have approx. 50 alpine strawberry plants, several basil, cat nip, chives and other herbs, along with a few “sensitive plants” growing in my kitchen under lights as we speak for my 4′x5′ porch. Given the clearance needed for the door, and I’m left with…11 sq feet?
It’s hard to stop.

I love you guys - you all sound like me. Would anyone approve of taking down a tulip tree (very large) in order to put a very large garden in? In would mean a lot more sunlight in my back yard - and I could buy more seeds!!!!

I come from a long line of gardeners and i have a tiny deck (3′x8′) and i have one palm, one potted english ivy, 3 christmas cactus (2 inherited), spiniach, lettuce, 3 herbs, and sugar snap peas….Why i chose peas that can grow taller then me i don’t know. Oh and my newest favorite my cranberry bush. And I’m sharing my leftover seeds with my mom who hasn’t started her garden yet! She actually has ground to work with.

Guilty. Can’t wait until January when the catalogs start arriving. For weeks, I pour over them and usually narrow my list down to 7-9 companies and place my orders. I have a closet dedicated to starting seeds and sow anywhere between 120-200+ seeds, plus there are the ones I direct sow. But, inevitably, there are always those seeds that I end up not planting. Maybe we should get together for a seed swap? Or at least offer to send the seeds we are not sowing to others?
