Qualifies as the Strangest Thing Buried By a Squirrel
I spent Saturday doing hardcore gardening work including prepping the fire-escape windowboxes for planting. On Sunday afternoon I purchased a few plants for the boxes and decided to get them planted up rather than wait for additional plants. Check out what I found buried by our friendly neighbourhood squirrel:

A sign of the times. Last year peanuts, this year an entire slice of pizza!
I know it was a new addition because not only was it still intact but I had just dug that spot yesterday. There was also evidence of squirrel digging on the other side of the box.

The location of the squirrel pizza.

OMG. The pizza had me in hysterics. Thanks for the Monday morning giggle.

I’ll never forget my first encounter with a squirrel and pizza. I was standing under a tree when something - it turned out to be a piece of pizza crust - fell on my head. When I looked up, there was a squirrel sitting on a branch, expertly holding and eating a slice of pepperoni pizza. I’m still disturbed by the thought of squirrels eating pepperoni sausage!

When I was a university student I often saw sea gulls and squirrels perched on the open concrete garbage containers eating KFC. Too bizarre.

Just a couple of weeks ago I saw two squirrels scamper past my window at work, each with a half a bagel in tow.

Funny!
We have a few fox squirrels out here. They stay out of the gardens, but sometimes steal the apples that I put out for the mockingbirds.

A couple of weeks ago, I startled a squirrel in a small tree outside my front door that was holding a large avocado. The avocado was almost half its size! It dropped the avocado on the ground but waited in the tree until I left. About an hour later I returned and the squirrel and the avocado were gone. I envisioned a tree party full of squirrels, a pitcher of margaritas and some awesome guacamole!

My mom actually told me about a squirrel she saw eating a cob of corn. I thought that was pretty funny.

You can get special chairs for the squirrels to eat corn in - we’ve got one in our back yard although it tends to be frequented by the blue jays more often than not. I’ve uploaded a pic to flickr for you - see http://flickr.com/photos/absoblogginlutely/518599683/

Oh wow. I like squirrels and that’s neat but I don’t think I want to encourage them to stick around. If I give them corn cobs they’ll be coming around to see what other tasty treats I’ve got on tap.

I think this is so cute. My boyfriend says i closely resemble a squirrel, because I have “squirrely tendencies”… yeah…well I guess I’m at battle with my own kind, because I have a squirrel taht is jumping from the roof of my house into my hanging baskets where I have my strawberries growing. He’s very giving though, because he leaves me acorns in their place! I thought it was the birds I was going to have to worry about.

Irene: I was worried about the squirrels but it turns out that the birds are a problem this year.
