Entering the Fall Fair
Last year we visited the Uxbridge Fall Fair and I especially enjoyed looking at all the fruits and vegetables that were entered into the fair. I’m thinking of entering this year.
These are the categories I’m considering:
Pepper - hot, 3 on a plate…Scotch Bonnets
Pepper - another other variety (named), 3 on a plate…Chinese 5 Colour Hot Pepper
Tomatoes - miniature, any other colour, stems on (not green)…Black Cherry
Tomatoes - any other colour, 5 on a plate, stem on (not green)…Banana Legs
Most oddly shaped single vegetable (no pumpkins)…I’ve got some weird-shaped sweet banana peppers out there.
RULES
1. No membership fee is required.
2. All entries must be tagged with a number obtained from the Secretary when making entries and must
include full name and address. (The age is to be put on the back of the tag).
3. Exhibitor Tags may be obtained from the Township Office or Public Library in Uxbridge prior to entry or
at the fair office, Thursday, September 7, 2006.
4. Entries must be handed in at the Red Barn Building no later than 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 7, 2006.
Something else cool about the fair entries:
NOTE TO ORGANIC GARDENERS
Gardeners who have not used synthesized fertilizers or pesticides in their garden for the current growing season and who have planted untreated seeds are invited to enter their produce in the Vegetable classes as “organically grown”. At the fair, you will be given green stickers, declaring your entries pesticide-free status, to attach to the portion of the entry tag which is folded and hidden from the judges until the competition is over. It is hoped that some healthy, side-by-side competition will show the fair-going public that organic gardening methods produce excellent produce, too.

If for no other reason, it’ll be fun to write about it here.
