Deep Impact
Remember that movie Deep Impact, where there was that huge underground bunker they called “the Ark” for saving people and animals and plants and stuff, in order to survive the impending impact of the comets slamming into the earth? Well, this article reminded me of it:

This was interesting…the article raised a lot of questions for me. It made me wonder how long you can keep a seed and have it stay viable. Is it possible that a seed stored for say, 50 years, can still produce? How effective will it really be in keeping the seeds “fresh” for new growth in the future? I didn’t know you could freeze seeds like that. Should I be freezing my extra seed packets? lol …and what about bulbs and other plants that don’t really make seeds? So many questions…so little time!
I think it is an important project though; if not a sad one, since the possibility of a global threat has reached such emergency levels.
