Pop Bottle Pots
So they’re not very stylin’, but these self-watering planters made from junked pop bottles are pretty handy for the well-intentioned but forgetful gardener. The bottom watering system keeps cuttings and seedlings on the right side of moist without the discipline (and hassle) of routine dampness patrol.

We used this technique in my freshman biology class to grow tomatoes and it works wonderfully. For the past two years I have used this method for starting my seeds and I have had great success. I recommend it for anyone who is lazy about watering their precious seedlings.

I made a couple of these tonight. I’m gonna plant ‘em right now. I only need to decide what to put in them- that’s the tough part.

Just for seedlings? I have a watering problem with my houseplants! This would be perfect for some of the smaller ones that didn’t require lots of root room. I’m sure you could put a paper or fabric or vinyl cuff around the outside to prettify it.
