A little update
So I thought I’d make a little update because I’ve been thinking a lot about gardening lately, but it’s been all thinking and no action.
After we had are weird little cold snap about a month ago (it snowed, do you hear me?) I got all down and thought “oh great, now when can I start my garden?” Fortunately the cold snap, which really wasn’t that cold but really chilly for here, didn’t last for two long.
Now it’s nice and warm, and even sunny, so I started poking around a bit, looking at the damage the cold snap made. Well, my eucalyptus died (that lasted all winter that I grew from seed), my blanket flower died, my calendula died - my osteospermum seemed to have survived though and even has some buds on it.
Not only that, but my gingko is now currently sprouting little leaves, and my shasta daisies are forming buds, and even my blanket flower which I thought died is growing new leaves. So all is not lost, however, after some more poking around I realized I need to add to the soil again.
This new plot, which I dug last year, has proven to be sticky indeed. It previously was a car-park, and hundreds of years before that was a river bed, which of course makes it very clay-ridden. So this year it’ll be another dose of mushroom manure and sand I think. Of course I’ll have to dig around the plants already there, but this is the price I must pay.
I haven’t even started my seedlings yet to tell you the truth - I’ve been a bad gardener so far this year. But I will catch up, starting Monday, that’s my goal. I’ll get the seeds in the ground, and hopefully within the next week or two I’ll be able to run to the Home Depot (unfortunately I don’t live any where near a proper greenhouse). My garden will be my little urban oasis! I even bought a little folding fence, maybe that’ll prevent the neighbours from mucking about in it this year.

Sounds good, Kelly! That blanket flower (gallardia?) will be just fine. :)

That was the eucalyptus seeds I believe I got from you too Gayla (during an exchange or the round robin - I can’t remember which one).
