I finally have gotten my plants! It was a slightly cold and rainy day, but that wasn’t going to stop me from wandering around outside picking out my plants.

Unfortunately, because of where I now live, I had to pretty much settle for the plants and Home Depot. They had the worst selection of perennials I’ve ever seen! It was one little rack. I did manage to get a shasta daisy and a white swan echinacea. They didn’t have ANY rudbeckia varieties. Very disappointing.

However, their selection of herbs, veggies and annuals were right off of the plant auction truck - none of them were even picked through! So I had the absolute best variety. Here’s what I got:

Veggies
I don’t have much room this year, and while I’m going to try to pursuade the people upstairs who take care of the garden to let me use a bit of it, I’m not counting on it even though they only have early-flowering bulbs in it. So, I only bought one early girl tomato (the variety I’ve always gotten the best harvest from) and a sweet red bell pepper. I wanted to get a jalapeno but they only had habeneros and super chilis.

Herbs
They didn’t have any African Blue basil or Thai basil (my favourites), so I had to settle with sweet basil and green globe. Both are alright, but definately not my favourites. Also, while looking at the basil, Home Depot had a whole bunch of flats with lemon balm in them labelled lemon basil. Now, I’m not a basil super-expert, but I know my fair share, and that was lemon balm, not basil. Hell, I figured anybody could tell the difference. Maybe not.

I also got some dill, sage (which I’ve begun to use a ton of in cooking) and rosemary.

I have such a small selection of plants compared to last year, it’s quite a shock. But then again, I had my own land last year.

People around my area seem to build little gardens on the boulevards, and they seem to not be messed with too badly. However, I live on a slightly busier street, so I think anything I may plant that isn’t directly in front of my door or in the garden on the other side of the house probably will get picked through and peed on.

I’m planning on having a little window box too where I’ll do doubt put more herbs.

Indoors

I’ve been doing quite a bit indoors as well. I’ve started some seeds - wild coffee, jungle banana, amber tree and fern tree. I’ve had luck with these before - up until they grow their third set of leaves. Then, they inexplicably keel over and die. I’ve also started some more seeds indoors that I’ll hopefully put outdoors. I’ve got to stop starting seeds, I already don’t have room outdoors. Here’s what I’ve started:
Green Bell pepper
Silver Fir tomato
Epazote
Cape Gooseberry
Sacred Basil
Thai Basil
Borage
All-heal
Jalapeno

I’m expecting the jalapeno seeds to be in vain - I started them way too late to get anything off of them. But what the hell, starting seeds are fun!
