It's almost Halloween! Booooo!
I started subscribing to Better Homes and Gardens. Not because I wanted a better looking home or garden (well, both could use some improvement, but that's not why) but because it was cheap. It was only $19 for 2 years or 79 cents an issue. And it didn't take 6-8 weeks for it to arrive like normal. I think I got my first issue in less than a month after I subscribed. Anyway, I kind of like the magazine. It's a mini Martha Stewart Living but more realistic. The crafts aren't to difficult, the recipes look pretty good, and the gardens look relatively easy. That doesn't mean I will try any of them. The magazine is just plain cheap.
The craftiest I have gotten this Halloween season is to slap some Charlie Brown decals on my windows. I wonder if they've aired "It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" yet? Knowing my luck, it will probably be pre-empted by some war coverage.
I've picked up some new indoor plants. I went to the used plant store. Only the used plant store must have caught on to people coming to buy used plants and saw $$$ signs because the used plants at the used plant store are not cheap anymore. It was quite possible to pick up a used plant for $175. Anyway, the reason I went was because my husband redid our speaker system and I needed some plants to hide the speakers. We went from some killer, but big, thrashed, and ugly speakers that cranked to little speakers that hang on the wall that crank. So I decided to try some camouflage to hide these teeny, tiny speakers. I picked up a snake plant. It's pretty big, but it reaches the bottom of the left speaker. I'm hoping it will grow taller. Or I just could plant it in a bigger pot, but that requires purchasing one. And I bought the coolest ivy topiary. I love this plant. I hope it doesn't die. I stuck it on top of the subwoofer that's under the right speaker. The top reaches the bottom of it. So much for my camouflaging.
The weather has been pretty nice lately. Cool nights and mild days. I'm starting to complain about the weather less and less. Just wait until May. I was going to make some flower beds, but I didn't. I've yet to replant some of my bulbs that I took out of my pots, but haven't yet. I keep forgetting to cover my Christmas cactus so it will bud and I really want to do that. I'm sure I'll just end up buying a new one instead. Gotta keep the economy strong.
I've included some pictures of some recent additions in our house. Can you guess which is the before and after picture of my majesty palm? Give up? I'll give you a hint...the after picture is the one that a plant should not look like after 10 months of care.
I hope you all have a safe and Happy Halloween. Don't go to the malls (yes, I know it's a hoax) and if I were y'all, I'd stay away from powdered donuts.
