March 28, 2001.

I wish the weather here would make up its mind. It was beautiful out last weekend, in the 70s. Today it was in the 40s and raining. As far as the wildflowers are concerned, though, it has been spring for awhile. They are blooming all over the city. I don’t think I’ve seen as many bluebonnets as I have this year. There is a wild seed farm in Fredericksburg that I plan on visiting soon and best of all, it’s FREE! And free is good!

I planted from seed this year. I was at Lowe’s the other day, and as tempted as I was to buy already blooming plants, I didn’t. Lowe’s didn’t have a great selection of seeds, though. I only bought some that promised blooms in 45 to 90 days. Screw waiting forever for hollyhocks to bloom. I also bought a box of 50 peat pots (or peat cell packs as Ms. Martha, if you’re nasty, calls them) that came with a lid for my own personal mini greenhouse. Later that day, I started planting my seeds. My son begged me to play basketball with him. I told him no. My seed planting came first, damn it. I think he understood. My "Mother of the Year" award paid off because two days later I had sprouts.

This weekend, my husband and I cleaned up all the oak leaves that had fallen in our backyard. I never realized how big our yard was until then. It took us 3-1/2 hours. I cleaned off the 2x4 that is our patio and when that was all done, I put my seedlings in some pots. I put some morning glory, cardinal climber and some moon flowers in them and put them on my kitchen windowsill. I also replanted my bougainvilleas that never bloomed last year (because they were in a total shady area) along the same wall as the window. You see, I’m hoping that by having these flowers by this window, it will make me enjoy washing the dishes since it’s over the sink. Maybe, they will make me look forward to washing the dishes. Maybe they will make me constantly wash the dishes. Maybe I’m living in a dream world because I hate washing the dishes.

And finally, on the bulb front, I still have tulips and grape hyacinth blooming. There are still several bulbs that haven’t yet.

Of course, I have no idea what they are.
