Strike Me Dead

Early this morning we had a thunderstorm. I'm all for them, but why in God's name do all our thunderstorms happen at either 2 a.m. or 5 a.m.? It's not like I've had a good night's sleep in...oh, say...13 years! I didn't even know it was supposed to rain last night. I guess the weatherpeople didn't know either because nobody predicted it. It must have been a doozy because it knocked off a big dead branch from one of our oak trees in the backyard.

Right on top of my ficus tree.

I stuck my ficus tree outside in the back to give it a 'vacation'. Also, because everytime I watered it, all these gnats would appear. It was like the Amityville Horror. I was waiting for some unknown voice to shout, "GET OUT!"

We had a cedar tree cut down a few months ago (it had only been dead since we've been living in this house and that's been three years) and i put the ficus on the stump. So, I'm outside doing everything one shouldn't do during a thunderstorm. I've got my big ass golf umbrella that could fit the whole city under it and I'm standing under a tree. At the same time, I'm trying to get the dog to relieve herself under the umbrella since she was none too happy to be out in the pouring rain, move this big ass branch, and pick up the tree. I managed to do this without getting fried. I wasn't too sure the dog did her bidness, so i walked with her a bit down the street. She peed once and that was enough for me.

I stuck chicken wire around my tomato pots. So far, so good. I'm sure those stupid squirrels will find their way around it.

Mmmmmm...tomatoes.
