What a Difference a May Makes

It is pouring outside right now. We've had rain all week. Which his good because we had a really dry spring and I didn't think my flower beds were gonna survive even though I have a sprinkler system. It has been so hot outside (I hate Texas, remember?), in the upper 90s already. That is August weather. It's too early for this shit.

Okay...enough complaining.

So, I got some chrysanthemums and a exacum for Mother's Day. Both of those plants were not long for this world. I don't know if the heat got to them or what, but they are half dead. I see some signs of life still, so I haven't tossed them yet. I think I set a new record for killing a plant. Less than a week. The bargain orchid is toast now.

I aslo have a dog now. Two weeks ago, I was outside and this stray came up. She had no collar. My neighbor gave her some water and she left. A few hours later she came back and my neighbors all decided she was my dog since I'm the only one that doesn't have one. I put her in the back yard (after she trampled through my flower beds!) and tried to convince my husband to keep her if no one claimed her. I noticed that she was extremely calm and friendly and didn't bark at all. Nor did she try to get out of the yard. I also decided she would be the perfect dog to get my youngest over his fear of dogs. Fast forward 2 weeks later, she is ours. My youngest is in love with her as the rest of us are. I took her to the vet yesterday and he determined she's about 18 months old. I also discovered that that she has no upper front teeth. I have a trailer trash dog! Anyway, I just wanted to say that people who dump animals are assholes.

My tomato plants are kicking ass. I've already eaten a few of them, although I should have let them ripen on the vine a little longer. But I have to beat the fricking squirrels to them. Is there anything they don't eat? I hate those rat bastards! I hate them, I hate them, I HATE THEM! Stupid rodent. If they were wiped off the face of the earth, I'd be the first person out on the streets celebrating.

Did you know that if you leave a packet of seeds in your gardening bag that is stored in a shed and for some reason someone left the door to the shed open and the bag got wet somehow that said packet of seeds will sprout? Try it sometime!

Since the title of this entry is What a Difference a May Makes...the picture on the left was taken April 17th and the one on the right today. During a thunderstorm. I risked my life for y'all.
