Is it springtime yet?
Yeah, well, I think it's spring here. I dunno. A little over a week ago it was 85 degrees one day. Three days later, we had snow flurries. And I did forget to cover some of my plants, but they survived. Mother Nature can't make up her frigging mind. And apparently, neither can the grape hyacinth because they are in full bloom already. Too bad my nose has been so stuffed up lately to enjoy their wonderful grapey (duh) smell.
PSA of the day. If you are allergic to cedar pollen, do not move to south central Texas. Good God, I have been miserable for the past two months. The pollen finally has left the building and I can now breath on my own again. You don't know how tempted I was at times to shove straws up my nose. And no, not for cocaine. That was soooo 1980s.
So this weekend, I finally got around to cleaning out my flower beds. I had to cut back and pull up all the plants that froze. Some of them were mush. It was gross. When I started out, it was 70+ degrees out and muggy. One hour later, the temperature dropped 20 degrees. No wonder why my plants are confused. I'm confused, too. I never know how to dress.
I was in Target the other day and I pinched a leaf off of a lipstick vine. I know, I know, bad. I stuck it in some dirt and so far it hasn't shrivled up and died (unlike some of my indoor plants that are in desperate need of watering). Of course, I'm going about propagating it the wrong way, but if it doesn't work then that will be my punishment for pilfering a leaf.
So, this is about as exciting as it gets here during winter in south Texas. Frozen plants and stolen leaves. Life is good
Oh, and stay tuned for future updates as I attempt to grow cherry tomatoes from seed. I hate growing from seed.
