Vines are evil

I spent this afternoon cleaning out my flower beds. Back in May when I planted them, I did so blindly. I am a very unorganized person and don't plan ahead when doing projects. Oh, I think about them and what I want them to look like, but I don't take the time to research things. So when I planted my flowers, I had no idea what they would look like 2 months later. I expected most of them to die.

As much as it pained me to do so, I ripped out all the zinnias. Some of them were almost 5 feet tall, which is fine, but not when they are in the front of the bed blocking all the smaller plants. Who knew that marigolds could grow almost as tall? See where the planning and research comes in? It's a good thing, people. I had a bunch of zinnia seeds, so I just planted some in the back of the bed along with some of the marigold seeds. Watch, this time they won't grow as tall.

Now on to the vines. Don't ask me why I planted them in the beds. I think my reasoning was that they would fill in the bare spots. They sure did by wrapping themselves around everything and choking them. Evil bastards. We played tug of war with each other as I tried to rip them out. They almost won. Until I got the pruning shears out, that is. Even as a snipped away, they didn't give up trying to take other plants with them as I pulled and pulled. But in the end I won because I'm just as evil too.

So the PSA for today is to never, ever plant vines remotely near other flowers. Plant them in pots so they can climb up dead ficus trees instead. You'll thank me for it.
