Taming the Jungle
It seems over the summer I let things get out of hand with the lawns. I am not really a fan of lawns anyway. If I wasn't renting I would rip out the grass and put in nice, low maintenance ground covers but somehow I don't think the landlord would like that.
Because I only have a tiny patch of lawn front and back I got one of those push mowers. It takes about half hour to do the mowing and is good exercise. Trouble is I loaned it to my friends a few months ago and, being the slacker that I am, didn't get around to getting it back.
To make matters worse the lawn here doesn't consist of nice, downy grass but mostly grass like weeds. After a month or two (yes, I am that slack) the weeds started taking over and what grass there was died off from the summer heat. Then we got rain and the weeds just flourished. At the same time I was doing a million other things. I didn't think too much about mowing except occassionally, fighting my way through the undergrowth to the front door.
Then things went from bad to worse. I got a letter from my real estate agent demanding the garden be done. The shame, the indignity. Didn't they know I fully intending mowing? Some day, soon.
I checked out the damage. There was no way a push mower was going to cut through the (now) thigh foliage. I had to get a gardener in.
So the lawns are back to normal now. In fact the garden looks good. I am motivated to do so much more since that icky job is out of the way. I am getting my mower back and keeping everything trim and might even buy a few new plants for the garden.
