Mulch
After the last entry we had a few bursts of heavy rain, thank goodness. I wanted to run out into the garden and do a celebratory dance.
I managed to get half the vegie garden weeded and mulched. I put down a heavy layer of newspaper because the weeds are so bad then was worried about it all blowing away while I went to the nursery to buy my mulch (I have a bad habit of starting things without thinking them through). Anyhow I sat all my pots around the vegie garden to hold it in place.
When I got home with the mulch I decided I liked the look of the pots throughout the vegies so much I would leave them there. It fills the garden in until I get the vegies growing anyway.
I love the look of the garden after the mulch is down -- it makes everything look so much more defined.
I still have half the patch to go (because the rest of the yard is paved or lawn it is a defined area) and I am thinking I might put a very heavy mulch on this half to smother the weeds until I get around to planting it. I would like this area to be filled with pumpkins and other vine type plants eventually.
