Drought
It is so dry here at the moment. In Melbourne things aren't as bad as they are in most parts of Australia, but still aren't good. We have water restrictions and can only water the garden by hand, at night.
Still some people persist in having those sprinklers and drip systems going in the middle of the day. There are advertising campaigns encouraging people to dob in water wasters and I have no qualms about doing so - we need the water too much to have some idiot just wasting it.
I went away for the weekend and thought my garden would be shrivelled by the time I got back, but luckily it survived. I need to do some weeding and some serious mulching though. I didn't put mulch down when I planted my vegies because I stupidily planted lots of seeds and then thought of it. And I have been avoiding any hard work in the garden lately because I have had so much else on. Now the seeds have grown enough for me to mulch around so I will be out bright and early tomorrow (Saturday) morning to get it all done.
One thing that is good about the dry weather is that some things I never have luck with, like capsicums and corn are really growing well. My strawberries are well and truly dead though.
I got some good ideas while I was away. I was staying with my mum and her garden is looking wonderful (she is in one of the few places the drought hasn't hit). Her garden is a cottagey garden mostly grown from cuttings or cheapies, with a few more costly trees here and there. I now want to really pack my garden so the weeds are forced out by nice things.
Hopefully tomorrow will be productive and I can get the garden producing me some yummy food soon.
