Bulb Confusion
I haven't had that much work to do in the garden lately, except that a pesky neighbourhood cat shredded the newspaper under my mulch so I've have to clean up and fix up that mess.
But, while I have been sitting back, lots of things are happening. Bulbs especially are growing strong. I stupidly got all the bulbs from last year mixed up (by putting them in the one pot when I lifted them - doh!).
When I went to plant them out a few weeks ago I had no idea what was what. Some, like the tulips, can be easily picked, but others were impossible. And even the tulips should have been sorted by colour.
But, now they are starting to grow, I can identify what they are, at least. I have some irises and tulips in a pot near the front door. It also has grape hyacinth which I really don't think will work in there so I might try moving them. It won't be too distressing if they don't survive the move because I got the hugest bag of grape hyacinth bulbs a while back at one of those church yard sales.
Out the back I have a few more assorted pots of bulbs too. I don't know if it is best to just leave them or if I should try to sort them as they grow. I am definitely putting little tags in the pots though, so when it comes time to lift them I will know exactly what I'm doing. Then maybe lots of pots to store them in which a big black marker to record them.
By the way, what is the best way to store bulbs after you lift them?
