I recently added some new plants to my garden. I planted a foxglove (digitalis) that I had sitting in a pot on my deck for ages. It has single-handedly transformed the status of the bathroom garden. Looking at the beautiful flower you just know this garden is for real. How can it not be with such an insane looking plant. A plant like that doesn't just pop up in the city. It's cultivated man. I love to pretend that single objects or purchases have suddenly changed my class status. Especially when they are thrifty purchases such as $2.00 plants.
Other new additions to my garden include sedum autumn joy, more irises from my mother-in-law (thanks again Sue!) and lilies that were given away as host gifts at my friend's wedding. The garden has now exceeded maximum capacity. It looks spacious now, but once these plants grow, it will be a full garden.
In other news I lifted several of the plume poppies out. It was tough but I got through it relatively unscathed. I still kept quite a few plants though. Some of them were beginning to flower and even though they are suffocating the echinacea I can't pull them out because the flowers are so pretty. I used to be such a hard ass. Now I use words like "pretty" quite readily. I blame gardening for turning me into a softy. But I still hate floral print dresses so it's okay.
The other day I caught someone pinching a large handful of mint from the garden. After the initial shock wore off I realized it didn't really make a difference. I had tons to go around. Don't take that as an open invitation to rip me off. I'll kick your ass! I mean it.
