Pitcher Plant/Faucaria/Seedy Saturday

Yesterday I bought a new pitcher plant (Sarracenia purpurea). It was in horrible shape when I bought it having been sitting on a table without water for some unknown length of time. Being bog plants, sarracenias are supposed to be kept constantly moist so you can only imagine the condition this sad table of carnivourous plants were in. I carefully picked up every plant, turning it over and inspecting every leaf, trying to determine which one by marginal differences had the best possibility of survival. They refused to offer a discount at the store, so I got stuck paying full-price ($7.99 CDN) for a barely-holding-onto-life plant.
When I got it home I immediately watered it with distilled water and placed it, pot and all, inside a small glass fish bowl I had been saving for such an occassion. My brother successfully grew a venus fly trap in the same bowl years earlier. It perked up pretty immediately. Some of the leaves are permanently brown and shrivelled on the tips, but I think it's going to be okay.

There's a thread going about growing Sarracenias here.

Later...
Yikes. I got so caught up in the excitment of the new pitcher plant I forgot to mention that I also bought a new succulent; a tiger jaws (faucaria). It's just a bit too easy to see which one is preferred.
I also forgot to mention that I attended Seedy Saturday over the weekend. It was a good turnout and I actually managed to curb my urge to buy more seeds I won't sow. I did buy:
- Tomato: Lemon Boy - Yummy variety I grew last year.
- Lemon Basil - my favourite of the citrusy basils
- Nicotiana sylvestris - a very tall flowering tobacco. Nicotianas have probably taken top place as my favourite annuals.
- Epazote (chenopodium ambrosiodes) - an herb used in making traditional Mexican black beans. Smells like gas (I'm not exaggerating)
- Pepper 'sweet chocolate' - who wouldn't want to grow a brownish coloured pepper with the name chocolate? Brown is my favourite colour so...
I also traded for some unknown basil seeds and garlic bulblets. More importantly I got rid of a magazine, some seeds and some cuttings/divisions. Finally, I bought some organic houseplant fertilizer from Happy Girl Hydroponics. It doesn't smell like hell like many of the other organic fertilizers so that was a big selling point. I don't mind the smells outside, but inside I don't care for the scent of rotting fish and kelp.
