Sharry Baby is Toast
Well it looks like 'Sharry Baby', my oncidium orchid is pretty much a goner. One thing I noticed when I repotted the plant was that the roots had never grown. When I bought the plant I repotted into a more appropriate container with appropriate potting medium and at the time it didn't have any proper roots. They were all kind of dry and hollow. Plus as I mentioned in the last post, the leaves had black spots. I suppose the way the growers got it to bloom was by shocking it rather than actually raising a healthy plant. It hadn't even occured to me that this could happen but when you think about it how many people buy orchids as short term flower gifts rather than as a plant they would want to keep long after the flowers are gone? I've learned another valuable lesson through all of this -- if the leaves are spotted and you KNOW the plant isn't 100% healthy, then don't buy it, especially at full cost!
I'm horribly sad to see this plant go, especially after all my recent screw-ups, but at least I learned something.
On a positive note the Nepenthes is doing great! And my one remaining orchid also looks healthy.
