Will the Madness Ever End?

Dead Lithops

A few hours ago I was innocently going about my daily ritual of inspecting my staghorn fern for scale insects, when I happened to look over and from the corner of my eye spotted the horrible bit of mess you see above -- one of my stone plants, dead. Just a week or so ago I was bragging to Davin's dad about my stone plants and how cool they are, and how the rock look is an adaptation to prevent grazing animals from eating them (I love to pull that bit of trivia out now and again), and look at me, brag, brag, brag, "I've managed to keep them alive for well over a year possibly two", and how "I USED to kill lithops but then I figured it out" and "I'm just going to give them a nice little spritz of water because I haven't done this is SO LONG".... And there was my mistake. I know I'm not supposed to water them on cold, grey days, but I was so caught up in show n' tell I completely disregarded my own rules.

And now I find my favourite, brain-looking, crazy orange lithops shrivelled and dead. Thankfully the other two plants are just fine. I won't be able to get another one until at least March when Canada Blooms comes to town, although last year I don't rememebr seeing any for sale.

See it here a year ago in all its glory.
