Sharry Baby
I bought another new orchid last night. I can't go by that dang store without buying one. At first I just HAD to have one with green flowers but then I saw this Oncidium and I bought it instead. It's called 'Sharry Baby' and is a popular chocolate oncidium. Apparently the flowers are supposed to smell like chocolate but either I'm just too stuffed up from this awful, polluted heat or it doesn't. I can detect a faint floral scent, but normally my sense of smell is way beyond normal. Who knows...
So far I'm doing great with my other orchids so I'm not too worried. My only fear is that during the winter months I won't be able to provide the Vanda with enough light. It is currently hanging outside under the gazebo and doing great. It's very high maintainence though. I go outside multiple times per day to spritz it and keep the humidity up. The humidity is currently very high, but it is so hot out on the deck that I want to be sure that it isn't just frying out there.
I don't know a whole lot about oncidiums but I did some quick reading last night in my new orchid book (which didn't have a whole lot of info on oncidium care and I checked out a few sites this morning. When I get a chance tonight I'm going to read it over and see what the deal is.
