The Aquilegia vividiflora 'Chocolate soldier'I bought in May is flowering! I didn't think it would happen this year due to my tardiness in getting it into the soil. My favourite columbine is still the indigenous Aquilegia canadensis, but the 'Chocolate soldier' is a definite close second. I love the subtle shades of green and brown that render the flower barely noticeable amongst the foliage. It is so unlike many of the super over-the-top cultivars I see in most city gardens. The flowers were almost fully open before I even noticed them.
