Please Help Turkey Pigeon

Turkey Pigeon

This little guy/gal has been visiting our deck everyday since Saturday morning. No one knows where it came from or why but we think he/she is cute and highly entertaining. At first I started calling the pigeon "Corky" (no idea why) but then I changed it to "Turkey Pigeon". I think it's called a fan tail pigeon but it really does look like a turkey. I'm really partial to turkeys so... They are just really neat looking.

Turkey pigeon appears to have a yellow tag on her foot but we don't know if that means she has "flown the coop" so to speak or if she was just caught at some point, tagged and then released.

Turkey pigeon is really spastic and not nearly as bright as other pigeons. I think that pigeons are highly intelligent birds. But turkey pigeon... She let's us get WAY too close. She flies down onto the sidewalk or the street and then just sits there which isn't a good idea in this neighbourhood. She comes up onto the deck but doesn't seem to get the concept that seeds are for eating. She just sits there staring into space until she gets bored and flies off.

Turkey pigeon is also quite spastic. She can't fly very well -- probably because of that huge thing on the back and partly because she is constantly twitching uncontrollably. I really don't think this pigeon is meant to be out and about on her own in the world but I'm not really sure what to do. Davin tried looking to see if there were any pigeon societies in the city that might know how to locate turkey pigeon's owner.

Anyone have any ideas?
