Yesterday I went out on a brief excursion with a FWC (Friend with Car). One of the stops was to pick up soil for the redneck herb pool and the tomato containers (which are stupidly huge by-the-way).
Our first stop was to a certain European furniture/lifestyle superstore where I succumbed once again to purchasing plants. I didn't want to go there because she specifically wanted to go to the "As-Is" section and I knew I would find something to buy. I ended up finding curtains for our deck (at a discounted price) to help shield the sun from simultaneously blinding and burning us during late afternoon tea breaks. Last year we threw up my neighbour's old 70's era sheet and to say it wasn't very "design magazine worthy" is an understatement. Not that our place is very design magazine worthy anyways... But it did do the job -- just in a very unfashionable way.

So I got the curtains and we hit the garden section where of course I was drawn in by a number of cacti and succulents. I ended up bringing home a yet to be identified cactus for the desertarium (tall with a bluish hue), a blue chalksticks (Senecio serpens) succulent and a flapjack plant (Kalanchoe thyrsifolia). This photo does not properly represent its glory!
Tomorrow the kiddie pool arrives (a FWC took it upon herself to pick one up for me which was very thoughtful) and on Sunday I'm going to the Herb Fair at Harbourfront. Fun!
