Redneck Herb Pool

Last night I went on a major plant run with a friend of mine. First we hit Plant World where we were surprised to discover it was "Ladies Day". Coincidently the last time we went there together was also Ladies Day! I'm starting to think they have A LOT of Ladies Days. Well at least I got 10% off my purchases just for being female.

Rather than provide a run down of every store we hit I'll just say that in total we visited four stores and I bought plants at EVERY SINGLE ONE. We plant shopped from 7:00pm - 11:00pm at which point we passed out. Here's the list:

  • African Blue Basil (Ocimum basilicum 'Kasar')
  • Caraway
  • Pineapple Sage (Salvia elegans)
  • Stevia
  • Lemon verbena (Aloysia triphylla)
  • Borage
  • Russian sage (Perovskia atriplicifolia)
  • Garden sorrel (Rumex acetosa)
  • Cinnamon basil
  • Salvia x Sylvestris 'Rose Queen'
  • Aquilegia vividiflora 'Chocolate soldier'
  • Nicotine 'Night scent'
  • Ornamental strawberry 'Lipstick' -- It has pink flowers!
  • curry plant
  • cape blanco stonecrop (Sedum spathul)
  • Lavandula angustifolia 'Lady' -- I can't help but sing the Styx song "Lady" everytime I look at it.

That's a whole lot of herbs in addition to the ones I already have and the seeds that are currently germinating. I was also very excited to purchase a small agave. Tonight I went out with another vehicle owning friend and purchased 4, 50lb bags of container soil and one 30 lb bag of a different type of potting soil. Somehow 230 lbs of soil just doesn't seem like enough. I'm not kidding, I'm kind of worried about it. My next step is to get a small kiddie pool and then I'll be rocking the herbs in a true thrift gardening fashion. If you call sixty bucks in plants and thrity bucks in soil plus a ten dollar pool cheap! I suppose it's about as cheap as I can get without resorting to buckets. Although Shelly brought it to my attention that I might end up like this guy.

I suppose I'll save listing off the plants I bought tonight for tomorrow. It's never ending.
