Is happiness ever petty? (garden)

It has been ultra-windy for the past few days after being super hot (mid-90s). My plants are just getting beaten up.

I staked my tomatoes a while ago, but they were very big already and the brandywine had to have its stake put on upside-down. It was branched too much at the base for a tapering stand to go on. Now it looks like a rocketship ready to take off. Of course the wind knocked it over and I've had to push bent wires into the ground around the bottom to keep it in place.

Both tomatoes are about 4 feet tall now and the sungold cherry has tons of fruit. I've even gotten to eat a few! The brandywine has not set anything - it gets flowers and they just fall off. I'm not sure what is up... need to do some research.

I have gotten to eat a few strawberries too, but I need to be on the ball or the birds/cats? get them before I do. I have also been eating the occasional fava bean off my home-grown plants. My vegetable garden is small, so I don't get a steady flow of food from it. It's mostly like the uncommon treat. It's nice, like candy.

The potted oregano is doing great, as are the chives. I got to make some pasta the other day with fresh chives and oregano with fava beans.

I had a barbecue and invited a bunch of people over last week. At the time, my pincushion cactus was in its glory - there were five open blossoms on it! The little thing is still only about 4 inches tall. It made me feel very "happy hostess" to have a plant bloom coincident with a party! Then I felt weird about being happy about it. Like it was petty or something. Is happiness ever petty?
