More Plant Blunders

Just when I thought I knew what I was doing, I end up having to repot, yes REPOT all my container plants on the deck.

Why? Well, as great as that whole Lasagna Gardening idea was, I messed up. Instead of using fine compost or even straight-up earthworm castings, I used steer manure as a layer. And I used that manure in way too many layers of the giant containers that my veggies and herbs were calling home.

End result? Wilting and yellowing plants stuck in compacted soil that wasn't draining well at all.

So I bought more huge plastic containers, divided up the soil from the other containers into those. Then added a bunch more peat moss plus adding a lot of vermiculite and perlite to the soil so it's light and fluffy.

Ugh. It's so frustrating to think you know what you're doing only to have to go back and research all over again. I still use the lasagna method, but I don't add so many compost layers and I remember to up the amount of peat moss and other soil lighteners. I even using packing peanuts!
