This is where people living in the Toronto area can discuss meeting up, introduce yourselves etc.

The first get-together we've been discussing is a "Field Trip" of sorts to the Canada Blooms garden show this March. The show goes from March 9-13.

Well, I am no longer an official citizen of the City of Toronto, but I consider myself a member of the Toronto Gardeners here because I don't think there is anyone from Durham Region posting on the forums except for me (if there is, speak up!).

This is my third year gardening and I'm really excited about my blank slate yard in my new home in Bowmanville. My plans this year include square foot vegetable gardens and maybe a small greenhouse structure. I'm starting a wide variety of seeds to get a jump start on the season.

Travelling to Toronto for meet-ups is no problem...my office is in Scarborough, anyway.

Looking forward to a fun and successful season three. Cool

Hi,
I would love to have a garden group that i could go to and learn from and share my excitment about things that are growing in my garden! I cant go to canada blooms show, because i have to go to the bike show the weekend before and due to the hefty fee for entrance i will be unable to attend both. I hope you have fun if you meet there, its always beautiful. I'll just watch the highlights from the show on cityline. Let me know about any other attempts at a group get together.

Hi Sunny,

There are two other things happening in the month of March: Seedy Saturday (scroll down for Toronto info) and my launch party for the YGG book (free).

Of course we'll have regular meet-ups too in the future. March just happens to have lots of events.

Sunny
you can always find out where your local Horticultural society meets each month. The membership fees are inexpensive and there are always projects to volunteer for.

Speaking on the website there is a link that says 'volunteer'. You work for part of the day and you get into the show for free. If you are willing to volunteer that is.

Wow, it's been a while since I last visited this forum - I am officially sick of winter and can not wait to start working in the yard again!

Let me know what happens with Canada Blooms - I might be able to go.

Anyone going to CAN BLOOMS? LETS PM each other suggested meeting times...after the tour busses leave.

What about the 10th? 5PM? OR WE meet at a chinese food restaurant (ROL SAN) and go after eats.

ANYONE>???

We were discussing times in another forum and had decided upon Saturday around 4-5 meeting at the entrance. I'm going to assume that "entrance" means the top of the escalators where the doors to the south building are.

I'm going to get there for 4 but am happy to meet everyone whenever. The big crowds don't seem to filter out until 5:00pm. We can always go eat afterwards if anyone is up for it.

I'll be there at 4, and will most likely be hungry afterward, so yes, this plan works for me!

As per other string, I'll be there at 4 but will have to leave by 5 or 5:30. I'm going with an out-of-town friend much earlier.

Sarah: Will you be arriving earlier? I can try and get there earlier to meet up with you for a slighly longer visit.

Hi Girls,

I'm taking the 3 o'clock Pickering GO train, which arrives at Union at 3:45, then will make my way over to meet at the escalators at 4, as planned. See you there!

Hey gang,

There are a number of Plant Sales coming up in the city that I have listed here. If anyone is interested in attending let me know and we can meet up. I always go to the Parkdale sale and the herb fair.

Since I don't live downtown anymore, I'll probably pass on the Parkdale sale (although I got some great stuff last year). I'm up for the Herb Fair again, though. That's where I met Gayla for the first time in person last summer. It was great! Lots of good finds. So I'm in.

Oh good. It might be a good idea to trade some cuttings too. I have scented geraniums and rosepetal thyme.

I spent the afternoon with Sarah today - she's as lovely in person as she is online! Very Happy She and Jonathan invited me to take a peek at their little backyard and then we went to the Spit to do some birdwatching. We're hoping to do this again, so if any of you want to come along, let us know!

I took some pics of Sarah's garden - her cheery yellow shirt matched her tulips in bloom.

A few notes about the pics: Sarah's lawn (cared for following her YGG Spring Issue lawn care article, of course) was coming along great. Notice the round stones and the metal pieces (railroad spikes and whatnot) that she's using for her borders. Sarah told me that she and Jonathan have been finding stuff to salvage piece by piece over the years. It was a garden filled with stories. Thanks again for showing me your garden, Sarah Smile

Aw gee, Sakura, I'm blushing! Also laughing because after all my complaining about how I get no sun in the garden, these photos are making it look like a sun-soaked paradise! (That'll all change in a few weeks when the leaves come out on the trees.)

The railroad spike/beach stone border is all Jonathan's work. I came home one day to find it all in place: wonderful surprise!

We had lots of fun on the Spit and it'd be great to have other YGGers along next time. We actually did even spot birds (a possible Least Sandpiper, terns, various swallows and what we think were Long Tailed Ducks, along with commoner things like cormorants, gulls and blackbirds.) The weather was fabulous, and the day was made the more enjoyable by Sakura's understated brilliance, curiosity and humour.

Or, as my dad would have said: A Good Time Was Had By All.

The Toronto Herb Fair is less than 2 weeks away.

Wanna meet up, Toronto YGGers?

(Dee, if you still have the horseradish up for grabs, maybe you can bring it along that day if you are available to join us.)
