specifically, "seeds and plants that produce food for you and your family." i had no idea! i don't know if the federal program allows this, but i'm a student and just got approved for food assistance because i just cannot seem find a freaking job this summer Sad and am so happy my garden qualifies. it's funny, i had no idea how i was going to afford the actual seeds for the ongoing exercise in frugality that are my raised beds (in progress) and now this. good stuff. go washington!

fyi - in my town, you can also use food stamps at the farmer's markets, and if you overproduce you can donate to the local food bank (zukes anyoune?).

yeah, here too! although not all the farmer's markets take them. in seattle, only the columbia city market is good about taking them.

i didn't know that about the food bank, so thanks for that! unfortunately i haven't been in a position of overproduction yet, but hopefully will get there soon. Wink

I had no idea, that's pretty neat! I've never heard of anyone here using their funds for that, I wonder how well they educate people about that use.

Accepting food stamps at farmers' markets and to buy seeds is pretty excellent!

Both are true for Wisconsin as well...at least at the big farmer's market in Madison. They just started accepting them last year. Fruit and veggie seeds have been allowed for some time. Smile
