Okay so it's not really a crisis but a curiousity

Got these lovely hot peppers from Sorellina last year. They overwintered in the house and I now have a bumper crop. I assume since they are from Dwayne's collection they are all hot. One is a caynne or similar chili and have all been picked and are drying nicely. The tiny purple /red ones I have been told are an ornamental. The one that is mystifying me is the habanero look-alike. I've scoured pepper identification sites and can't come up with a match. They have turned a lovely shade of deep yellow/orange but no sign of turning red. They are slightly different in shape than the habanero I have for comparison.

Any thoughts?

I have yet to taste one but I'm assuming they are wicked hot. I would like to use them in a habanero style hot sauce but was hoping to know what they are in any case.

Also the one pepper plant that didn't survive the winter has seeded itself in my olive tree and I now have several healthy plants of this variety- also unknown

Could the one you were told was an ornamental be pequins?

The fruit shape and compact form looks just like a pequin morado that I grew, except your foliage is A LOT darker.

Ciao Callie-

I've forwarded the photos to Duane, so hopefully he can unravel the mystery for you.

Thanks Sorellina! I spent a few hours looking at pepper pics and I think maybe the yellow one is a golden hab of some sort- they are quite hot!

The little round ones turned yellow to orangy red- still haven't used them in anything so I don't know how hot they are! I got several accidental plants from the single pepper that grew last year and have gifted them to friends so it would be nice to be able to tell them what type they are!

All of the plants are back inside and hopefully will survive another winter indoors

I'm no expert, but the first one does look like a habanero to me. The round ones remind me of those peruvian ones that turn purple.

Ciao Callie-

Duane's got to look at last year's growing list to be definitive. I can tell you that the round ones are either Christmas Something or Marbles. I think he grew both of those and they have a similar shape, although the Christmas one stays white for a long time before changing colour. What you do need to know is that both of those are chilies, they're not sweet. They won't knock your lights out, though. I put them in with my pickled Romano beans for a little kick.
