I vowed to get the ball rolling on this much earlier then previous years so we'd all have ample time to make something.

And so I present the 2008 Warm Winter Wear Drive.

In previous years we have knit or crocheted warm winter gear and donated it to The Redwood Women's Shelter in Toronto. we have continued to give to The Redwood because they are a great organization that has a need and because it has always made the most sense logistically to have everyone send their package here where I could organize, tag everything up, and take it over personally.

But I am open to suggestions if you think there is another way to do this.

I already have some baby hats left over from the afghans for Afghans drive - they don't have earflaps which is why they weren't sent. Would you want those?
Are you thinking a November deadline?

I appreciate the advance notice, that'll give me time to make more this time.

We can go as late as December 1. My goal is always to try and get them to the shelter before the Holidays which also happens to be a time when domestic abuse increases.

Auntiem: It all sounds great. Thanks!

I inherited a whole lot of wool today including two partially started projects- one is definitely a sock and the other could be a sock or potentially a mitten. Both came with needles (4) and enough wool to finish but I am not that good a knitter to continue either of them without a pattern. Anyone in Toronto up for the challenge? It seems a shame to waste such a good beginning and they would be a nice addition to the donations pile.

I'll post pics of them if it helps.

Hey gang,

I'll be away this Dec and am unable to spearhead this initiative this year... but I still really want to do something during the holiday season.

So in keeping with the spirit of the site, I started a KIVA loan team under the You Grow Girl name. I figured we could support farmers and people setting up food-related businesses.... but I'm open. Please do chime in if you have ideas you'd like to add.
