Often referred to as "living stones," the Lithops family offers
the opportunity for gardeners to snicker behind the backs of people who ask,
"Are they really made of stone?"
Lithops verruculosa sounds like a venereal disease, or
perhaps the star of 3rd Rock from the Sun. Either way, the name
doesn't have the power or mystery this odd plant deserves. We could go with
something like The Thing (after the rock superhero from Fantastic Four), but
we're looking for something awe-inspiring.
That's why Lithops verruculosa shall now be known as "Save Hitler's Brain."
