This flower, the Indian Paintbrush (Castilleja coccinea) aka Paintedcup is a member of the Snapdragon Family. The red parts are actually bracts, and the yellow part is the actual flower. This plant is fairly common yet I had never seen it growing wild prior to finding this lone plant growing near a ditch on a cottage "lawn". |
