You Grow Girl™

Lake Huron Shoreline

This was a particularly exciting find since this plant was completely unknown to me. It is incredibly low-growing, but once I spotted it, the little dots of purple became more evident. I forgot to bring my "National Audobon Society: Field Guide to Wildflowers (Eastern Region)", so I had to wait until I got home to find out that this orchid-like flower is called Fringed Polygala (Polygala paucifolia).

The plant is also known as Gaywings; probably due to the flowers which look like little winged birds.
