Lake Huron Shoreline

I was really excited to see wild columbine (aquilegia canadensis) in full bloom. It was covering a sunny opening in the forest behind the cottage we were staying in. I always think of the Alien Trilogy when I see this flower because the spurs are so reminicent of the skull protrusions of the Alien creature.

The spurs contain nectar and attract pollinating, long-tongued insects.
