Growing up in the early 1980's, every kid in my grade school collected stickers. The coolest, most coveted stickers were by far the scratch n' sniff variety available in a wide assortment of smells. Recess time had kids huddled together in groups on the playground freaking each other out on wacky smells such as dirty shoe, skunk, and bandaid. My favourite scents were the ones that had me foaming at the mouth with their realistic and seemingly edible smells of delicious treats such as bubblegum, grape, and candycane.

Fast forward twenty years. While I'm a tad old for scratch n'sniff stickers (admitedly I still have my sticker collection in a box somewhere) I was delighted to discover that an adult version of such luxury exists in the genius soap creations produced by Pisces Soap. CEO and soap designer Kerith Henderson has created food and garden-inspired soaps that look and smell like all your favourite confections -- from fudge brownies, bubble gum sticks and chocolate pie to grilled cheese sandwiches and dill pickles. They're so convincing many of them seem good enough to eat! Because they're made to be hypoallergenic with natural ingredients and essential oils, they may well be edible, just not tasty. Regardless of the bad taste, when presented on a plate friends were totally fooled by convincing soapy replicas of bagles with cream cheese and lemony iced cupcakes.

In addition to food soaps Kerith, an avid gardener, has created a line of plant and garden related soaps. My favourites are the "Soap Plants", minature "dirt-scented" soaps shaped like terra cotta pots with silk orchids or plastic foliage "growing" inside. Or if your love of tomato plant smell is not satiated through the growing season, try bathing with the Tomato Basil bar which smells like fresh tomato leaves and is imbedded with a real dried basil centre. -GS
