The tree at the top of this photo is the Royal Poinciana (Delonix regia) and goes by many names such as the Flamboyant tree, peacock flower and flame tree. For a few weeks or months of the year it is covered in bright red/orange blooms that eventually drop and are replaced by seed pods that can grow to be up to a few feet long. Although they are not native to Mexico, they grow well in the southern climate.

This garden is in the backyard of the Cabrera Family in Oaxaca City. Even though it was the end of the dry season, they had loads of plants in full bloom. The pinky/purple flowers along the back wall are bougainvillea.
