Day 1: The Set-Up
I cut all the withered stems off my shamrock and place it strategically atop my speaker. A lone stem slumps over the pot, waiting.
I figure a little visual-excitement couldn't hurt, so I've got the 12" sleeve, our 5 favorite boys featured in glowing color, on display.
Friends come by and taunt me, telling me my plant is done for. I toss on the 12"; 6+ minutes of full on synth-beats and downtown bass accompanied by the soothing voices of New Edition - puberty not yet upon them. My friends reconsider their position.
Day 3
Cool It Now is quickly proving to be a mighty elixir. Three days into it, and the shamrock already has two shoots, and 2 more on the horizon.
Day 7
Half way there, and I know my Shamrock's going to make it. I'm beyond wanting this plant to just survive, I want it back to its bountiful state. For this reason, I decide to max-out with the B-side: "Cool in Now the Dub version". Weighing in at over 9 minutes, it does something magical to both the plant and me.
Day 10
"Ronnie, Bobby, Ricky and Mike, if I like the girl who cares who you like?"
Day 14
The growth in the last seven days would make the boys proud. Abundant stems grow from the soil, with big purple leaves stretching in every direction. Together, the Shamrock and I rock-on to Cool It Now one last time.
Two short weeks and mission accomplished. Much like those 5 boys from Boston, my Shamrock defied the odds. And so did I, bucking my usual trend and rescuing that plant from death's door. Chalk one up for LRock, the Shamrock - and New Edition.
