You Grow Girl™

Winners of my new book Grow Great Grub have been selected using a random # generator and they are:

Paula, who spent her, “…childhood years on a working farm, and didn’t appreciate it until I went away to college. Now I’m becoming passionate (obsessed) with where my food comes from, so I’m planning on starting my garden this year.“

And even though I said only two winners, I threw in a third because there were so may entries and I couldn’t help myself.

Beth, who says she is inspired by her first harvest from her first vegetable garden, grown last year. “Meager as it is, it was really exciting to have food we had grown ourselves, and seeing it now just gets me excited for how much more we can try to do this coming season.“

I hear that snowstorms have hit many of you, and that a bunch of snow is set to dump all over my region sometime late this week. What better time to get excited about seedstarting?

This weekend marks Montreal’s 10th Annual Seed Fair (aka Seedy Saturday & Sunday). It’s a two day affair featuring free workshops and presentation, and a seed exchange table. Dozens of local seed producers will be set up to sell their organic and heirloom vegetable, herbs, and flower seeds.

I’ll be there signing copies of my book and will be giving a presentation on Sunday afternoon.

I’m really excited about this event. Toronto’s Seedy Saturday is my favourite garden event, hands down. I’m curious to experience it through a different city with their own local vendors and sense of community gardening spirit. Plus, it’s held at the Montreal Botanical Gardens, which just happens to have the best greenhouse I have visited as of yet.

I did a quick and easy giveaway of my new book “Grow Great Grub: Organic Food from Small Spaces” on The Twitter last week and as promised I’m doing one here too. It’s still winter and most of us are hibernating and reserving energy for the spring, so let’s keep this simple.
