Crown Imperial Fritillaria (Fritillaria imperialis)

It’s kind of ostentatious but still a welcome sight in mid-spring. Although the yellow type is kind of boring.

  1. This is my absolute favorite flower. It’s so outrageous, like the drag queen version of a bunch of carrots or something. This year I got the “not your Grandma’s garden” bulb collection from Fedco solely because it starred the Crown Imperial. So far the tulip varieties included are really fun-can’t wait for the main attraction to bloom!

  2. I have a couple of these in my yard. They only grew so high last year and didn’t bloom. Hopefully this spring they do. I’ve never seen one in bloom in person.
